The Basilisk IR Jacket is our waterproof / breathable enduro-touring kit for trips through primarily off-road terrain. It provides a balance of waterproofness, breathability, mobility, and protection, with a CE-A rating for abrasion, and CE-Level 2 rating for impact protection.

The Basilisk IR Jacket combines high-performance materials with clean lines and minimalist design. The articulated fit allows freedom of motion and easy layering, and packs smaller than a traditional ADV jacket.

Pair with the Basilisk IR Pant to complete the kit.

DESIGN

The Basilisk IR Jacket is designed to perform during athletic, technical riding through primarily off-road terrain in a wide range of weather conditions. It handles long transfer sections with ease and is now CE A-rated for abrasion / slide protection.

We took the Basilisk Jacket's proven shell performance and fit developed over the last seven years and added integrated / removable (IR) RHEON™ LABS body armor. This makes the Basilisk IR a waterproof, super-breathable, and now more versatile and protected ADV jacket.

At its core, RHEON™ is an energy-absorbing superpolymer. Soft and flexible in its natural state, it intelligently stiffens when subjected to force. Made to feel invisible, its designed to flex to the curvature of the body for an adaptive fit. One of the unique elements of RHEON™ is its patented algorithmic design and 3D printing process. The combination makes it both lighter, and more protective. The unique cell packing allows for better impact absorption while allowing air to flow naturally around the rider, making RHEON™ armor the most breathable protection on the market to date.

The included CE Level-2 armor pads are easily removable, allowing the jacket to convert into a lighter-weight and more packable shell for use with separate body armor. (Compared to the previous generation of non-armored Basilisk Jacket, the new integrated armored version fits the same with the pads removed, ready for use with your own separate armor.)

The jackets rip-stop body fabric is a highly abrasion-resistant eVent® Expedition 3-layer, using eVent's proprietary Direct Venting™ technology. Heat and water vapor move directly through the air-permeable membrane, allowing your body to breathe freely and stay comfortable. With a 30,000mm on the water column (100 feet of water pressure), an MVTR of 10,000 g/m/d, .06cfm air permeability, and a DWR coating to keep you dry in wet conditions.

We have storm flaps on all external zippers to increase the Basilisk's ability to shed water. In high abrasion areas like the shoulders, back, and elbows, we feature Super Fabric® ceramic platelets on a 600D waterproof/breathable overlay for added strength. With double-layer fabric, you can crash repeatedly and still stay dry. Our zippers are top-of-the-line water-repellent YKK Vislon Aquaguard: they won't clog with dust and grime and are easy to operate one-handed with gloves.

There are two external hand pockets and two chest pockets, (one external, one internal), with six substantial vents placed strategically for maximum airflow. On the inside, we eliminated hanging liners entirely, reducing weight, bulk, and heat. In high abrasion areas like the shoulders and elbows, laminated patches protect the tricot lining.

This super comfortable jacket provides a balance of waterproofness, breathability, mobility, and protection, with a CE-A rating for abrasion, and CE-Level 2 rating for impact protection.

Simply the best.

I’ve bought premium gear such as HH, Sitka, Rukka, Stio, Hestra, etc but my recent purchase of Mosko Moto probably tops them all, if that’s possible. It is simply that good. I purchased the Basilisk riding jacket and pants and would put it up against any brand at any price. If everything they make has this level of quality then my wallet is in trouble because this stuff ain’t cheap. But as they say you get what you pay for. And this gear is the best that money can buy.

a very well designed jacket

This jacket is the best I have worn, your after-sales service is great, I will not hesitate to make other purchases from Mosko.

Very good with a "but....

Did use the Basilisk IR jacket for about 2.000 km. For me a great fit. Esepcially around the waist where many jackets are too wide. The position of the buckle in near elbow (inside arm) is a bit ackward. The Mosko provided good adjustability. The "but...." The back protector is very small and sits only between the shoulders. The lower back is not protected. So I removed the back protector and go back to my old faithful dedicated back protector. For daily use not the most convenient solution.

Great qulity - But - design issue with buckle on arm.

I appreciate the upgrades on the new Basilisk jacket and think they’re great overall. However, I’ve encountered a couple of concerns. The buckle near the elbow area tends to dig in and restrict movement when bending the arm, which makes it difficult to fasten the helmet. Given that Mosko uses their own products extensively, I’m surprised this wasn’t caught during R&D, and I hope it can be addressed in future revisions.

Additionally, having used the previous Basilisk model, I purchased the new jacket with the intention of fitting layers underneath rather than just armor. The current design, which includes armor, feels quite restrictive and doesn’t leave much room for additional layers without removing the armor. This seems to be more of a sizing issue, and perhaps a larger size would have been a better fit for accommodating layers.

Definitely worth the wait

I just received my Basilisk IR jacket today and took it for a quick 400 km ride. As another reviewer stated, ”best jacket I’ve ever owned”.

I’ve been on the hunt for a lighter weight, more packable replacement to my 9 year old Klim Badlands and had looked at the Basilisk several times over the years given how impressed I’ve been with other Mosko products, but wanted something with integrated armor. When the Boundary IR was released, I ordered one right away but found the neck opening too wide and given the stiffness of the material and size, was unable to cinch it in enough with the drawcord to take advantage of the jacket being waterproof. I also found the Boundary to be as heavy as my Badlands. It’s a quality jacket and if you’re looking for that level of abrasion protection, and have a thicker neck, it’s an amazingly built jacket. Mosko customer service as always, were amazing to deal with and facilitated an effortless return.

So the hunt continued and I began looking at a new Badlands, as well as offerings from Revit and Rukka. All offered great jackets, but the models I tried were heavy, have internal liners (hot) and just weren’t the light weight, packable and simple clean lines with basic pockets I was looking for. I get that everyone wants something different in a jacket, but having seven external pockets on my current Badlands, none of which are waterproof, just adds weight without function if I have to stop and move things every time it starts raining. Still a great jacket, but just doesn’t suit my needs any longer and is showing its age and wearing out.

When the Basilisk IR was released I was pretty excited and again ready to pull the trigger, but was concerned about the size of the neck opening and its ability to keep most of the rain out. But, given how easy returns are with Mosko, I ordered the jacket and was impressed right from the moment I unpacked it and put it on.

Amazing mobility and awesome materials which I know will be both protective (armor and Superfabric right where you want it and no where else), eVent waterproof material which I know works, as I have been using a pair of Rak overpants in the worst storms and stayed dry, burly Vislon Aquaguard zippers which I also know to be incredibly waterproof as experienced on the Rak pants and other garments like Arc’teryx shells. And it’s all put together with serious attention to detail. Plus I can cinch the neck in enough to provide a better seal, and work with a waterproof balaclava or storm collar if really needed.

Last piece is the venting. I was actually shocked at how much air flow I experienced given the storm flaps over the zippered vent openings, but it just works. The flaps are actually really well thought out when you consider how water flows when riding at speed in a hard rain. I really thought the front chest pocket would be finicky to operate with the storm flap opening on the left based on the photos, but it just works and will undoubtedly help keep the water out and my wallet, key fob or wherever I have in there, dry as intended. Riding a 2016 R1200 GSA with stock windscreen for reference on airflow.

For sizing reference, I’m 6’1”, 180 lbs, 42 inch chest, 32 inch waist, and a size Large is perfect. Others have mentioned the arms being long, but I found them to come down to my wrists just right, allowing me to cinch the cuffs over both my short and gauntlet gloves with ease and be comfortable while in the riding position, while not have them bunching up or hanging down like I’m a kid wearing my dad’s jacket when off the bike.
Also comfortable with a mid layer underneath, and the ability to tighten or loosen the arms and waist works really well .

I know it’s just the first ride, but this is a solid jacket and I believe well worth the cost when compared to similar offerings from other brands, and the confidence I have from personal experience on how well Mosko equipment lasts.

Glad I waited, really well done Mosko, Thanks.
