Ectotherm Insulated 12v Heated Jacket (V2.0)

We added carbon fiber heating elements to a kick-ass technical puffy, and the ‘Ectotherm’ was born. The updated V2.0 brings a redesigned lower-profile controller and cable management pocket, plus two new battery-saving modes to extend off-bike capabilities when used with a power bank.

When the wind chill is at its peak, the Ectotherm’s bike-powered 6-panel carbon-fiber 3.5Amps/42w heating system will keep you warm on high alpine passes and long, cold pavement stretches.  When you crawl out of your tent on frigid mornings, the Ectotherm performs as a super warm stand-alone insulator with 100g body-mapped synthetic PrimaLoft Gold insulation with Cross Core Technology.

V2.0's upgraded heat settings include a Low Power Mode, where the heating elements pulse, gradually increasing and decreasing heat, helping maximize battery life when plugged into an external power bank. In Timer Mode, an auto-off setting is activated to maintain your desired heat level at 20/30/60 minute presets, which is handy for falling asleep on bitter nights and not using up all your battery.

UPDATES TO VERSION 2.0

  • Lower profile heat control button interface
  • Multi-mode functionality and additional heat settings, providing options for efficiency and battery management
  • Low power-pulse setting for minimal battery consumption
  • Timer setting for nighttime use

Unlike conventional heated liners the Ectotherm is a fully functional stand-alone synthetic insulation layer. By combining the functionality of a technical puffy and a heated liner we’ve added even more performance and versatility to a layer that we rarely leave home without. Now you can enjoy the comfort of onboard 12V heat without over burdening your pack space. Pair it with heated grips and hand-shields to create the ultimate minimalist heat system for backcountry and RTW travel.

Built with 100g of PrimaLoft Gold Insulation with Cross Core Technology at the core and 60g in the underarms to reduce bulk under armor, the Ectotherm is well equipped for any cold weather trip. This high-tech insulation combines PrimaLoft Gold, with aerogel technology, to provide up to 52% more warmth than the same weight of PrimaLoft Gold Insulation alone. This enables us to achieve both enhanced warmth and decreased weight. Integrated directly into the fibers, aerogel further enhances the performance of synthetic insulation. Now not only will it perform better than down when wet, it will also perform better when compressed under armor.

To further battle the chill of riding in the cold, we added 6 thin, flexible carbon fiber heat panels in the collar, arms, left and right chest and back. Activate the heat with a hem mounted controller to toggle through 3 levels of 3.5amp/42w heat to maximize comfort. The system is powered by your bike’s 12V battery (wiring harness included) for heat that lasts as long as the ride. When it comes to cold weather riding the Ectotherm Insulated 12v Heated Jacket is a powerhouse of comfort when pushing the boundaries of riding season.

The Ectotherm name comes from Ectothermic, a scientific term for animals that exchange body heat with external sources, like a lizard basking on a hot rock.

Great in cold weather riding- nice as a daily jacked

I was only riding with it two times this spring:
Initially on 14°C and it was basically too warm even on the lowest setting- but nice with 100 kph in the forest and shadow. And also comfortable when off, but as a base layer.
Second time on 8°C (46°F) and bad weather. Was nice on the lowest setting- but did not yet have the chance to test it in colder temperatures. Also didn't bother yet to test it on a more powerful setting in the conditions I was riding in.

So far: Great for riding. Simply wore it under my regular riding jacket.

P.S. The heating is instantly- does not need any time to ramp up.

Apart from that I was using it as a normal jacked (without heating) during the winter as a mid-layer, or now in spring a standalone jacket.

The only issue I do have with it, is that I feels as if it restricts my arm movement a bit. But there was no difference for me between a size S or M. Because of that I was thinking about deducting 1 star down to 4- but is such a minor issue, that I still like wearing it and it does affect my mobility on the bike while riding. It only feels this way when crossing my arms before my chest- so still 5 points. My current favorite mid layer / spring jacket.

Ectotherm heated jacket

Great jacket. Excellent quality. Heats up really quickly and really warm! Also very warm without heating when off the bike.
Fit could gave been a bit slimmer.

Comfortable, even without heat.

Jacket is well worth the money. Looks good enough to daily, and works amazing on the bike. Wouldn’t hesitate to buy again

Too warm at times. lacks versatility

Build quality is exceptional. It's a nice jacket, although way too long. There are times when this is too warm before it warms up enough to take it off. I find myself starting a day with it, overheating, so I take it off, but it isn't really warm enough out yet for zero insulation, so out comes the rain shell. Warm n safe has the heated jacket thing figured out. Why reinvent the wheel? Anyone want a lightly used size Large? Not recommended

Game changer

The new Mosko heated jacket is perfect for winter riding. I usually ride year round in the Yukon and this jacket has made it so much more enjoyable without freezing.
