I bought this jacket based on the great reviews that have obviously been purged of bad reviews. Unfortunately, I tried it on without a helmet and then put it in my bag for the next rain storm. I got caught in a rain storm on the highway and pulled over on the shoulder in the pouring rain trying to put this jacket only to find it will not fit over a helmet. Are you kidding me? Now I'm stuck with a rain jacket that forces me to take my helmet off while standing in the pouring rain so that I can put it on. WTF? Now I can't return it because I've already used it. I guess I'll add this to the many lesson learned trying to figure out who makes well thought out gear and who doesn't!!!

Pack the Rak

Love this jacket. Combined with a jersey and armour, makes an ideal package for those days that range from cool to hot to wet. On a recent weeklong trip, I would throw this jacket on over armour during the cool mornings and swap it for a jersey in the heat of the afternoon. Packs small and light enough to fit in a hydration backpack for quick access and swap with a jersey or a quick throw over during a downpour. On faster slab sections, the durability of the jacket inspires confidence and provides a solid wind break. On overgrown trails the jacket stands up to twigs and branches that would otherwise tear lighter rain shells apart. Great gear can be expensive. This is certainly great gear.

Expensive, but does EXACTLY what you want.

I first saw the Rak advertised and thought “I can do it for cheaper” and tried… For years I have thought a tough pullover overtop my pressure suit would be excellent. But nothing worked. Too fragile, the zippers too weak, the features were all wrong.

I finally gave in and got the Rak. And you know what??? It’s PERFECT.

Rak Pullover

Size Guide >

The Rak Pullover is another exercise in our “less is more” approach to ADV. Our thinking remains that the jacket that accomplishes its mission with the least features, is best. Less to break, less to go wrong, fewer places for water to get in, and therefore more functional. The result is a lighter, nimbler, and more breathable shell. It strikes a perfect balance between the Deluge’s ultralight packability and the Basilisk’s rugged durability, all with a clean, minimalist silhouette. The Rak – which comes from ‘Anorak’ - is the ultimate in simplicity. It keeps you dry in all-day driving rain, it packs away small when it’s not in use, and it’s built to last.

We wanted a light, durable, waterproof 3-layer outer shell that’s ‘too simple to fail.’ We wanted it to be just as waterproof in the third year of an RTW trip as it was on day one. This quest led us to offshore sailing, ocean paddling, and mountaineering jackets, and then eventually to anoraks, which offer the ultimate in water and wind resistance. On a bike – especially an enduro without a windscreen – we take all the wind and water straight to the face. When you’re riding into a firehose, every ridge, wrinkle, zipper, pocket, and seam is a source of weakness. We stripped away as many of those as possible in the Rak, while still preserving the core functionality we need both on and off the bike (like hand pockets, for example).

The Rak features a pullover anorak-style entry with quarter zip design, two hand pockets, one chest pocket, adjustable Velcro cuffs, and Cohaesive® embedded cord-locks at the hem and collar to help seal out the weather. The 3L eVent waterproof breathable material keeps you dry and comfortable with Direct Venting™ technology. For the ultimate in airflow and venting, take off the Rak, roll it up, and stash it on the back of the bike. It packs tiny, and features a lashing loop on the upper back so you can strap it directly to your bike or luggage when it’s not in use.
