My heating jacket of choice

After having tried my Mosko Moto Ectotherm Insulated 12V heating jacket during a winter trip, I was surprised by its efficiency. Up to 0°C, I used it without any problem as a mid-layer, both on the bike and on foot. Then, when the temperature dropped, I plugged into the bike and rode wrapped in comforting warmth. I love it. It has become my go-to jacket for my motorcycle trips.

Ectotherm is fab

I been wearing the Mosko Moto Ectotherm jacket just as a jacket.
It's superb, clearly quality kit created for and by riders. For a comfort gauge, I wore it over a thermal base layer and MM jersey when it was around 34 degrees F, and the jacket +2 layers was a perfect match for the temp. There's a napoleon pocket on the outside, which I think is perfect... as a layer adding warmth, surely nobody would want to open a jacket to get to a pocket, right? I was surprised at how warm it is as compared to how thin it is.
The green color is perfect and the pop of orange-copper elastic at the sleeve cuff is a nice touch. There are thumb holes at the ends of the sleeves to provide a little extra coverage for your hands if you want to pull the sleeves down over your hands. The sleeves are a touch short for me to just slide my thumbs through the thumbholes and wear it with thumbs-in-holes, which is fine because I don't think I'd normally wear it like that anyway; if the sleeves were longer they'd look funny and create unwanted bulk at the end of my sleeves with a riding jacket on. Basically, the thumb holes are a good option for getting my hands tucked in if it's chilly outside but otherwise unnecessary.
I ordered a medium. I'm a slightly paunchy 5'10", 175 pounds with a 40-inch chest and 32 inch waist. It fits perfectly. It will fit over a chest protector but is tight that way so I'll probably ride with it over base layers and under armor... either way would work.
The jacket stuffs inside itself to make an easy little pack to cram it wherever you want in your panniers.
I haven't used it as a heated jacket on my motorcycle like it is designed for. Don't judge. LOL. I'll ride when it makes sense, and I'm going to assume that the heating elements are as well designed and constructed as the rest of the jacket. It has a nifty cord storage and power selector built in. It feels kinda dumb to review a heated jacket without having tested the "heated" part, but if it works this well as a regular jacket, it's gotta be a winner when it's plugged in.
Mosko Moto has earned my business in a big way. Everything I've received from them is top notch.

Better than my prior heated jacket

I just received my Ectotherm Insulated 12v Heated Jacket and gave it a test run, temps here in the Northeast are below 30 degrees. I typically wear a size small in most my gear (i.e. Klim), but sized up to a medium and fit was perfect. A small surely would have too snug (5'7" & 140 lbs). The heating is on par with my prior Gerbing heated jacket liner. Where the Ectotherm wins is in the fashionable category. This is light. comfy and can be worn as a standalone jacket.

Ectotherm Insulated 12V Jacket

I read about this jacket on ADV Rider and ordered one. I found the sizing to be accurate if just a tad on the smallish side of the scale. It fit tightly but went on under my regular riding jacket. The tightness of the fit made it somewhat difficult to put on but fit was good after that. The quality is top notch; seams are beautiful, zips work like they should (and have zipper garages), the comfort was amazing and it was warm from the get go. I connected the heating element to my battery and am happy to report that the on off switch is easy to use with three settings and it warmed up quite comfortably. Definitely recommend as a jacket liner, first class kit!
In the end I didn’t keep it since there are no built-in connectors for pants or gloves. It is an undergarment as there is no armor, but other than that I recommend a trial if one is interested. A well made garment!!

Ectotherm Insulated 12v Heated Jacket

Size Guide >

We added carbon fiber heating elements to a kick-ass technical puffy, and the ‘Ectotherm’ was born. When you’re sitting around the campfire or lounging in your tent, it’s a super warm insulator with 100g body-mapped synthetic PrimaLoft Gold insulation with Cross Core Technology.

Connected to the bike, it adds a 6-panel carbon-fiber 3.5Amps/42w heating system powered by the bike. That extra warmth takes the edge off long, cold, wet, pavement stretches; keeps you warm on high alpine passes; adds new enjoyment to early spring and late fall trips, and ensures you’re ready for anything a multi-year/multi-season RTW journey can dish out.

The Ectotherm is your ‘ace in the hole’ for staying sane and happy when the weather turns brutal. The name comes from Ectothermic, a scientific term for animals that exchange body heat with external sources. Like a lizard basking on a hot rock.

*Ectotherm sizing runs small. We recommend one size up from your usual preferred size.

Unlike conventional heated liners the Ectotherm is a fully functional stand-alone synthetic insulation layer. By combining the functionality of a technical puffy and a heated liner we’ve added even more performance and versatility to a layer that we rarely leave home without. Now you can enjoy the comfort of onboard 12V heat without over burdening your pack space. Pair it with heated grips and hand-shields to create the ultimate minimalist heat system for backcountry and RTW travel.

Built with 100g of PrimaLoft Gold Insulation with Cross Core Technology at the core and 60g in the underarms to reduce bulk under armor, the Ectotherm is well equipped for any cold weather trip. This high-tech insulation combines PrimaLoft Gold, with aerogel technology, to provide up to 52% more warmth than the same weight of PrimaLoft Gold Insulation alone. This enables us to achieve both enhanced warmth and decreased weight. Integrated directly into the fibers, aerogel further enhances the performance of synthetic insulation. Now not only will it perform better than down when wet, it will also perform better when compressed under armor.

To further battle the chill of riding in the cold, we added 6 thin, flexible carbon fiber heat panels in the collar, arms, left and right chest and back. Activate the heat with a hem mounted controller to toggle through 3 levels of 3.5amp/42w heat to maximize comfort. The system is powered by your bike’s 12V battery (wiring harness included) for heat that lasts as long as the ride. When it comes to cold weather riding the Ectotherm Insulated 12v Heated Jacket is a powerhouse of comfort when pushing the boundaries of riding season.

*Ectotherm sizing runs small. We recommend one size up from your usual preferred size.

The model is 6ft tall, 175lbs, and wearing a size Large.
