Introducing the redesigned staff favorite Jackaloft Jacket. We started with the same exceptional insulation and focused on improving both mobility and weather protection. By utilizing a stretch 20D ripstop fabric, along with a refined fit, we delivered improved freedom of movement, while a dry microporous fabric and DWR coating provide additional protection against light weather and precipitation.

In addition to the upgrades, the Jackaloft remains true to itself: a super low-profile, exceptionally warm, and highly packable insulation layer that's cleverly disguised in a classic overshirt design. Casually styled to integrate between riding, travel, and town, the Jackaloft is as versatile as it is functional.

DESIGN

Don’t let its humble silhouette fool you. The Jackaloft insulated shirt-jack punches way above its weight. Ultralight, highly compressible, and super warm, the Jackaloft uses fully synthetic PrimaLoft® Gold insulation with Cross Core technology. This high-tech insulation combines PrimaLoft's top-of-the-line fibers with aerogel (google ‘aerogel’ for more info!) to provide 52% more warmth than the same weight of PrimaLoft® Gold alone. This enhances warmth and decreases weight, resulting in a highly packable, ultralight garment.

Originally developed by NASA, aerogel is composed of more than 95% air and is the lightest solid material known to man. It’s also one of the most effective insulation materials ever made. When integrated directly into synthetic fibers, aerogel dramatically enhances warming. This isn’t just something you see in charts and stats. You’ll immediately feel the effects yourself when you wear the Jackaloft. On a moderately cool evening, you might be surprised to find yourself leaving the Jackaloft partially unzipped, which is surprising given its size and weight. We packed as much warmth as we possibly could into this very small package.

The size of the Jackaloft is important not only on warm days when it’s packed away on the bike but also on cold days when you’re wearing it under armor. With insulation, body armor, and an outer shell, one of our biggest challenges is how to layer up without making our riding kits so bulky that we can’t move around. Another challenge is that body armor, a shell, and constant wind pressure on a non-windscreened enduro bike can compress your insulating layer, removing its loft and reducing warmth. That’s why the Jackaloft uses synthetic insulation rather than goose-down. Synthetic fibers will maintain their loft even under pressure, keeping you warmer on the bike.

We styled the Jackaloft as a shirt-jack for a very practical reason: we want this to be the only insulating layer you need on your trip. If we can disguise a highly technical insulated riding layer as a badass garment that you’re stoked to wear around camp or on your next Tinder date, then that’s one less thing you have to pack. Wear it everywhere.

Perfect!

I got the Jackaloft Insulated Jacket before riding the CO-BDR this past fall. Wearing it early morning, afternoons and at hi altitude under my armor was a game changer. It pack so small that during the day I can put it away inside the main compartment of my wildcat backpack with out need to use the beaver tail at all. I didn't need anything else on top of it while cooking or enjoying the stars at night when camping. Is perfect to wear it to go out for dinner. I started my ski season at summit county this week and I'm using it all around, during the day I folded inside the pocket and put it in the google pocket of my ski jacket to have it handy, I ended using it last Tuesday on a windy day at keystone, so warm and was my second layer under my Shell jacket.

Comfortable and warm for the brisk evenings!

The sun is quickly going down and it's about to get cold - what do I reach for? My headlamp, throat coat tea, camp chair and my Jackaloft Insulated Jacket. The headlamp because there's a real joy to having it your pocket when you need it, and not waiting until it's dark and having to use your phone flashlight to dig it out of your bag. Throat coat tea? Well the dust from the trail doesn't do my throat any favors, and It's a great comfort drink to start the evening activities. Camp chair? These dogs are barkin' and someone has made a fire so it's time for the ride stories to begin. Last but not least - my Jackaloft insulated jacket - It's proven to be an awesome jacket for around the fire, or in the shoulder seasons, especially in the high desert or mountains where the temperature drops quickly when the sun goes down. It's lighter than my heavy puffy jackets but allows room for layers below so I can regulate as needed. All around, this jacket is a staple for a nice cozy evening outside! Not on a riding adventure but still want to experience the highs of feeling like you are?? Grab your jacket, go out on your porch at night, zip up the jackaloft and enjoy the good life.

Second Jackaloft !

After my son ride with me a couple of weeks ago and use mine, he was driving me crazy to get one for him, it has the perfect balance, super light, amazing insulation, really thin as an under layer, great quality and stylish. Perfect combo for a rider, it does what exactly it is for.

I wanted to love it so much!

Its an excellent jacket. In my opinion, better than the Patagonia Nano Puff, the issue is the fit. Even the new version which is loosened up a bit in the shoulders, its still too tight in the armpits. I'm a large in every single item I wear, sometimes even a medium in brands like Colombia. Its perfect everywhere else. I really want to love it so I might order the XL and hope that works.

Solid first run, can't wait for updates!

First off - I'm a big fan of Mosko and all things Mosko. One of my favorite things about Mosko is seeing their continued growth and updates with each product; they never leave something alone, always looking for improvement in products they already have done. I'm hoping this Jackaloft is no exception!

The Pros:
Thin, light, warm. The material feels good and slides over and under layers really nicely so I never feel anything holding me up when I'm out on the bike. I felt very confident with all the materials involved: the Primaloft Gold is highest quality, YKK zippers are big and no snags with nice feeling, big zipper pulls to use even with gloves. Mosko put their attention into each area and it's apparent. Packing down into the pocket is relatively easy, brilliant, and makes it a no brainer to toss into a bag, even when you're not sure if you'll need it. Packed down it measures roughly 9.5"x7.5"x2.5". The sleeves are Goldilocks length and the elastic cuff is perfect. The styling is also fantastic - no huge logos (very discrete branding) and the contrasting colors in the Lichen are "chef's kiss" The chest pockets look great and the only (small) logo placed here.

The Cons:
With any first version, there are always things to work through. Sizing: I'm generally a large in everything, but with the Jackaloft, I "almost" want to move into an XL. At 6'0 and 195lbs, I opted not to exchange, but I feel the material stress in the shoulders when I'm wearing it around casually. I feel like some stretch panels here would solve this. Once my arms are outstretched for handlebars, this tension is gone. Otherwise, very slimming and arm lengths are great. The Collar: This is the same material and construction as the rest of the jacket, unfortunately that means there's no support or stiffness here to keep a "collar" shape which translates to the collar often folding under or standing up or, generally, just doing whatever it wants. The main zipper also stops at the collar so it has even less control when it's a mid-layer under another jacket (for me, Klim Carlsbad) Would love to see the zipper run all the way up. The Hang Loop: This is totally a nit-pick but I've never experienced it on another garment - when I get home and take off the layers, I hang the Jackaloft (as my other jackets) using the hang loop by the collar. I don't understand what's different, but the loop end up "remembering" it's position of standing straight up even when I put on the jacket. Numerous times I'll be out and either feel the loop rubbing my head or a ladyfriend will end up tucking it in for me. Weirdest thing and I have never thought about it before, but probably because I've never had to think about it before. Pockets: hand pockets are great, no issues there. Chest pockets are stylish but I'm not a fan of snaps - that's just me. Would love to see an internal chest zip pocket, maybe. Not a deal breaker.

Overall, this is a solid mid-layer and one I'm looking forward to using for years to come. The closest equivalent I can find on the market is the Patagonia Nano Puff at $199 and only 60g Primaloft compared to the 80g here in the Jackaloft and I'm proud to be supporting such a great company like Mosko. If you're torn on whether to purchase this, don't be. Pull the trigger and don't look back - you'll be happy you did!
