The Woodsman In-The-Boot Pant is a technical softshell pant for enduro riding. It’s just as at home on tight Northwest woods singletrack as it is in the open desert or on extended ADV trips. The hybrid design puts a Schoeller® waterproof / breathable material on the knees and seat for protection from wet brush, wet seats, and water crossings, while the DWR-coated nylon Oxford upper provides excellent breathability.

DESIGN

The Woodsman takes design inspiration from ski touring and alpine gear. The first thing you’ll notice is that it’s ‘stretchy.’ Not just in a few small panels but everywhere. To complement the stretchiness, we articulated the patterns for athletic riding and for alternating between a seated and standing riding position. They are comfortable enough that minimalists can use them as their only pair of pants on a multi-day trip. They work on and off the bike, around the fire, and out for a beer. Dust and dirt are the only things that will give them away as riding pants.

There are four vents on the thighs, two cargo pockets for your wallet, phone, trail map, or clip knife, and two hand pockets that are ‘handy’ when you’re off the bike. The pockets all zip closed, so you won’t lose your valuables if you bounce off the trail. The Woodsman is cut to fit inside your boot for durability and grip and has ample stretchiness for maximum mobility. Depending on your perspective, the Woodsman is a ‘touring pant you can trail-ride in' or a ‘trail-riding pant you can tour in.’

They work on the bike and off, around the fire, and out for a beer. Dust and dirt are the only things that will give them away as riding pants. The Woodsman’s in-boot design allows you to grip the bike directly with your boot – without pinching fabric in the middle – which is how the bike-makers and boot-makers intended it. That’s why you rarely see off-road racers in over-the-boot pants. Unlike most in-boot pants, the Woodsman has a full-length inseam, so you won’t get that ‘moto-capri’ look when your boots come off.

With the Woodsman, we’re breaking free from the convention that you need to wear waterproof ADV gear all the time. In most sports, the rain gear comes off when the rain stops. With ADV, many riders wear waterproof gear in every type of weather, regardless of whether it’s raining or not. Even in the desert with no chance of rain, we see ADVers in head-to-toe waterproof clothes, trying to manage their heat problems in all sorts of creative ways. With the Woodsman, you can take off your rain gear and continue your trip in stretchy, breathable, comfortable pants when the rain stops.

The Woodsman takes a hybrid approach to water management. The thighs and butt are fully waterproof with a 3-Layer Schoeller softshell, while the crotch and calves are membrane-free for maximum breathability. All the seams are taped, and the entire pant is treated with a Durable Water Repellant (DWR) coating, so light water beads up at the surface. There’s just enough water repellency for stream crossings, muddy puddles, dewy brush, and light rain without causing heat problems for the rest of the ride. We call the Woodsman a ‘90% pant,’ because 90% of the time it’s exactly what you need.

Great and comfy

Wears as a normal outdoor pant. Well ventilated. Never had a more comfortable durable motorcycle pant.

Great Pants!

I wore these pants 4 days in a row experiencing conditions from from hot, dry, and dusty to cold and rainy. The pants performed exceptionally and just as the guy in the video review said they would. While they were not inexpensive, they are worth every penny. Couldn’t be happier with my purchase!

Woodsman = Perfection after four Months on Zepbound

I tried the Woodsman pants when I was 204 lbs and 38" at the waist; the size 38 was too big and the size 36 was too small. After getting down to 168 lbs via Zepbound, size 36 was too big and size 34 fit perfect. I love these pants when it's too cool to wear my Kiger pants.

The very best IMHO

I was VP Sales and Marketing at Arcteryx and a partner in the company. You may have heard of the brand as the THE leading technical mountain apparel brand in the world. We created that thru absolute commitment to products that met the needs of the most extreme mountaineers and outdoor crazy people. We didn't care if we sold only 20 of something...if it went to 20 of the most hard core folks out there we were happy we filled that need. Arc also invented many of the features that are your jackets and pants. Laminated seams, pockets, the laminated cuffs, the reverse zippers, some of the remarkable fabrics that came out of Schoeller and others...the laminated zippers etc. Basically Arc reinvented how technical apparel was made. At one point, being really keen motorcyclists as well as mountaineers, we looked at designing a line of mc clothing. At that time,(1998) we knew we could blow the industry away with our innovations and our commitment to lightweight but super durable, exceedingly brilliant fabrics etc. We decided it was too much of a distraction from our core business, but I have to say, if Arcteryx had done mc apparel, it probably would have looked like what you have created. I say that as a huge compliment. I got my basilisk jacket and woodsman pants today and did a deep dive comparison to my Klim stuff. The fabrics, the quality of the make, the laminated details (ITS ALL IN THE DETAILS), is absolutely first rate. Congratulations. You are making exceptionally good products that are unlike anything else in the industry. Unfortunately, most people have no idea how innovative you have made your garments and how they are made, the REAL quality of the fabrics etc. Which is too bad but then...they know it works. I just got back from 7 days of backcountry with the new kit, and everything was perfect. Pants are brilliant and worth every dime, good venting and super comfortable. Shed dirt etc really well. The jacket was exactly what I had been looking for...a true three layer set up, very breathable, with only the key features needed, nothing more. Easy use of zips and vents and even in 30C temps, the jacket was surprisingly cool and vented. Even after 7 days of dirt, camping, dust, rain and mud...the gear just shakes it off.
