DESIGN

Sold in pairs, these waterproof panniers feature a simple-to-access roll-top closure and packing capacity of 60L (30L in each pannier). The bags are constructed from DWR-coated 420D nylon 66 ripstop and 840D TPU-coated nylon fabric, double-layered in high-wear areas for extra protection against abrasion. Multiple external compression straps and a fiberglass baton-reinforced back panel help keep your gear in place when the trail gets rough.

The removable internal tote bag is made from waterproof 70D ripstop nylon, allowing you to quickly remove your packed items from the pannier when setting up camp. The tote is waterproof with taped seams, providing an additional barrier between your gear and the elements. This also allows storage of water / fuel bottles and dirty gear at the bottom of the panniers while keeping your sleeping bag and clothing separate in the tote.

The Alpine Pannier's universal mounting system makes it easy to attach to most pannier racks—right out of the box. Built to handle challenging off-road terrain, the secure attachment system utilizes four Hypalon reinforced side straps, a lower Velcro wrap panel, and an adjustable upper connection point with high-strength nylon webbing and a premium anodized aluminum Atlas buckle closure. (This is the same buckle used on avalanche safety airbag backpacks.)

Weighing 4.1 lbs per pannier, the Alpine Panniers are a minimalist, waterproof rack-based luggage system designed for riders prioritizing weight savings and simplicity for increased ride performance in primarily off-road terrain.

Amazing

I think the overall quality of the Alpine Panniers have been understated. I love them and combined with my Stinger tail bag, it is the perfect loadout for my Tiger 900.

Alpine 30L Panniers

Great Quality. My camping gear, tools, spares kit and food fit all fit in perfectly. I couldn't be happier with the quality off finish. They're easy to open and close even when sitting on the bike.

One time user, but excellent!

I was looking for a good luggage solution for my DR that wasn't super heavy, and didn't require straps to run across the seat. As the Outback Motortek racks were (and are as of 6/28/2025) out of stock, I went with ones from dirtracks.com. No crossmember under the fender, but sturdy enough for these kinds of bags. Took them on the Mountain Loop Highway in WA to camp in that area and they worked perfectly. They were fully loaded and I had to resnug the top strap a few times, but they held fast through highway use and what I'd consider a pretty bumpy gravel forest road. Likewise when I loaded them light for a forest day trip. I see what people mean when the interior bags are thin, but I didn't have any issue with that. It does feel like I'm putting them under strain when velcroed to the opening and fully loading them, but they held up. If the interior bags get updated, I hope they can be offered separately.
Looking forward to using these again.

Preliminary review

I bought these bags recently, after getting my ankle pinned under one of my Backcountry Panniers after taking a fall on a BDR. I couldn’t budge my ankle or get out from under the bike without help. So, while I love the Backcountry bags, I decided I wanted something that was lighter and more flexible and that attached to the rack in a way that might give me a prayer of taking the bags off easily to either get out from under the bike or lift the bike easier on the trail.

This is a preliminary review, as I haven’t had a chance to take the bags on a long off-road trip, and I haven’t taken a hard fall yet with them on. But, I did get them out for a couple of hours on twisty pavement, dirt roads, and a very bumpy and rocky Jeep trail, mainly to test whether they would stay solid on the bike or, instead, flop around.

So far, so good.

Capacity: I loaded the bags with most of the gear I would take on a BDR-style trip. The usable capacity seems very similar to the Backcountry Panniers, though buyers should note that there is no easy way to mount Aux Pox or other small bags to the Alpine panniers to expand their capacity.

Stability: I was concerned the bags might flop around, but with a good sized load they stayed very stable. I checked the straps mid-way through the ride. One had loosened slightly but most stayed put completely. Keeping them solid will probably take a little more fiddling than the Backcountry bags, but they definitely are not unstable under load of flapping around. I’m sure they are at least as stable as most rackless systems.

The lack of configurability with attachable small bags is, IMO, made up for by the very light weight of these bags. They are featherweights compared to the Backcountry bags with mounting their brackets and associated hardware.

Now, does the lightweight mean they aren’t going to be durable in a crash? Hard to say at this point. Both the outer and inner bags are much lighter than the Backcountry bags, and I have no doubts the Backcountry are more bulletproof. But, that doesn’t mean the Alpine won’t hold up fine in most accidents on the trail. I’m taking them on the Colorado BDR in a couple of weeks and will update my review if I get a chace to really test them in a slide.
