DESIGN

UPDATES TO VERSION 2.5

  • 100% recycled 1680D Ballistic Nylon & eco-friendly PVC backing (this is the main feature update and has a pretty big impact on our footprint)
  • Bottom panel is Aux Pox compatible
  • Aesthetic, trims, & logo updates

We created the Backcountry Pannier because we were tired of over-the-seat soft panniers that flop around in rough terrain, have no external pockets or stash spots, disintegrate after a couple of crashes, and are a total pain in the ass to get on and off the bike. We wanted something like a backpacking frame pack that mounts on your bike, stays connected to the bike, and stays waterproof no matter how many times you lay the bike down.

The Backcountrys are super easy to click on and off the bike, and because the waterproofing is accomplished inside the bag (thanks to the two-bag system), minor external crashes and scuffs won’t faze your panniers at all. Thanks to the thick, welded seam internal liner, you’re also protected from internal abrasion: for example, tools, a camp stove, or some other hard piece of gear vibrating and rubbing against the inner surface over a long period of time.

The Backcountry is heavier than a traditional over-the-seat saddlebag. What you get for that weight is bomb-proof construction and materials, a completely stable mounting system (no flopping), and lots of stash spots. Lighter is not always better if it comes at the price of functionality or durability. If you’re really serious about weight, take off your racks (shaving 8-10 pounds off the bike) and get a Reckless 80L instead.

Fantastic Quality and Customer Service

Purchased the Backcountry Pannier Kit for my 2023 BMW r1250 GSA to replace the hard cases I had installed when I purchased the bike from the dealer. The OEM hard cases are nice, however, after hearing stories and seeing firsthand the impact damage hardcases impart to lower legs and ankles, I started researching soft case options. My research included a call to the Mosko Moto USA HQ and Showroom in White Salmon, WA, where the staff was extremely helpful. Along with that, the reviews I read were all spot on; the bags and hardware are superior quality and, barring an attack by a pack (herd?) of honey bears, they should last a lifetime of travel, on road and off. The only minor issue is with the assembly instructions... they could use some improvement. However, there are some good instructional videos on the web which I recommend. Even so, I took my time and got them assembled on the bike and they are awesome! The OEM hard cases should make for some nice planters on the deck this summer.

Smokey Mountain 500

Completed (attempted to at least) over the last weekend. New Mosko Moto backcountry 35s survived a sliding layover on curve and two accidents on the trail… besides a few scraps, bags held up awesome, great investment.

Almost perfect

For my daily commute I have a Yamaha Tracer 9 2023 with Givi top case and removable racks for small plastic panniers (in case I stay a night in a hotel). Pleased with the bike, I decided to go moto camping using it, so looked into more serious luggage options. After reading the drawbacks of hard cases, I wanted (Givi) rack based soft panniers. But I wanted them to last. After my own research and a nice, informative talk with Mosko Moto EU Support about v2.1 and v2.5, I was convinced to buy the Mosko Moto BC 35 v2.1 :-)

As the v2.1 pods seem to be not so compatible with the later version of the MSR dromlite, I bought the larger 3L Osprey Hydraulics Reservoir that works perfectly You just need to secure the hose, use the Osprey dust cover and forget about the opening for the dromlite nozzle. I'm now waiting for the Mosko Moto first aid bag to be delivered as well.

So why 'almost' perfect? I've got the four aux pods and they are great, but... with the five screws not something I just uninstall and install again. I wonder why the pods don't come with MOLLE/PALS for mounting to the panniers. That would make it perfect for me. On the other hand, I'd most likely keep all four on anyway.

I've now done my second holidays trip and the first camping trip using the panniers (and BC duffle (v2.5). The designs are well thought. Features I didn't think I needed, come in handy after all. These people know what they make and why. The material really becomes less stiff with use. So yes, I am very happy with all my Mosko Moto products!
