I am blown away by the durability of these bags. Easily bested the WABDR (including a few spills) and protected a full glass growler of beer when I accidentally dropped the bike in town. Shockingly well built.

Completely satisfied

Purchasing Mosko Moto gear was a no brainer. After reading numerous reviews and watching several youtube videos, deciding to outfit my GSA with Mosko Moto gear was an easy decision. I started outfitting my 2021 BMW 1250 GSA initially with the Backcountry 40L duffle. I had been waiting several weeks for this bag and panniers to become available. Once the Backcountry 40L duffle was briefly available I ordered it. It arrived quickly and my initial impression was how durable the duffle was. I mounted it on the OEM luggage rack along with a Black Dog rear rack platform. Additionally I used the Backcountry cinch straps to secure it to the rear rack / Black Dog platform.

The cinch straps are awesome! So well thought out. Attachment loop on both ends, the ability to tighten from either or both strap ends. The buckles and strap materials are both heavy duty. There is plenty of strap to mount virtually any size bag or other items. Totally pleased with the straps and would definitely recommend them for mounting and securing the Backcountry 40L duffle.
I waited for several more weeks for the Backcountry 35l panniers along with the BMW GSA water cooled adapter kit for the panniers.

Initial impression of the Backcountry 35L panniers, as with the Backcountry 40L duffle, was totally impressed with the obvious durability, top notch construction, and well thought out design on every aspect of the panniers. Just absolutely bomb proof. And waterproof too! So mounting was easy and very secure to the BMW OEM racks. Sliding the panniers onto the wedge system is totally secure. These bags won't ever become dislodged . As to the durability of the panniers I didn't plan on dumping the bike onto them but s**t happens. When doing some dirt riding and rear wheel dirt slides I was able to see that the panniers can take a beating when contacting the dirt. If I had on hard boxes I would be pounding out dents and patching holes. The Backcountry 35L panniers can and did take abuse. They came out unmarred, just little dirty. A few weeks later I loaded them up for a solo camping/fishing road trip. They were able to carry so much gear, clothing, and other stuff. In combination with the side pockets and the 4L Molle storage pouches, and the Backcountry 40L duffle, I had so muck room for everything I would need. With plenty of storage space remaining, packing for my wife and I would be no problem. Love everything about the panniers; craftsmanship, materials, design, color scheme. Everything about the panniers are superb.

The Backcountry 40L duffle was excellent for packing my camping gear. I was able to store tent, air mattress, sleeping bag, cooking gear, clothes bag, and had room to spare. The tent pole pouch came in handy too. My tent poles were secure in the pouch and had room to spare if I wanted to put a couple of telescoping fishing poles in it too. The beaver tail is great for securing other bulky odd shaped items like my camp chairs. I thought getting used to a side entry duffle might be a pain but it actually made access simple. Backcountry cinch straps are great to mount and secure the Backcountry 40L duffle. This duffle is rugged, can hold so muck stuff, and looks great. Absolutely think it is a great piece of gear.

I have not a single complaint about any of the Mosko Moto gear I have purchased. All of the gear; Backcountry 40L duffle, 35L panniers, BMW GSA adapter, cinch straps, and molle 4L pouches, have exceeded my expectations. I feel Mosko Moto gear is a great investment. I can see this gear lasting a long time. If you want the best this is the stuff to get.

Just Shut Up And Take My Money!

If you’re reading this review, it’s because you’re on the fence about these bags. Let me give you several reasons why you should stop reading this review immediately and add these bags to your cart! 1. They’re freakin awesome! - Yup, the sheer volume of thoughtful small details on these bags make you shake your head and say: “HECK YEAH - these bags are awesome!" - 2. The load on, load off feature is fantastic. I store all my camping gear in them in the garage, and when I realize I have a free night to hit the trail, I can load up and head out in minutes! 3. They’re well priced! - Yeah, not “cheap” but who wants cheap crap anyway? They’re still better priced than anything you’re going to find at any retail store that’s marked them up 60% - Mosko sell direct to customer and don’t charge full retail - FACT! Bottom line is this - buy these bags, you will NOT regret it. Now if only I could get sponsored by Mosko…. :P

Backcountry 25L Pannier Kit (V2.1)

The Backcountry Pannier is our flagship product, designed for long-distance adventure touring, hardcore enduro-style riding, and camping from your bike. This kit includes two 25L bags, for 50L of total capacity.

With bomb-proof construction and heavy-duty materials, these bags can really take a beating. Our quick-mount wedge system makes it easy to take the panniers on/off the bike so you can store them in your tent or have them by the fire without wrestling with straps. Our new proprietary ‘Speed-Pin’ latch ensures that the mounting system is always engaged.

This is the system for long distance travelers and people living off their bikes. Guides, instructors, and RTW riders: this system was designed for you.

*Cutout Pannier Rack Note: Bikes with stock racks and a pannier exhaust cutout (like the R1250GSA, R1200GSA, 850GSA, or F800GSA for example) require an additional adapter. Check the 'Racks + Adapters' section of our site, or email us with questions.

We created the Backcountry Pannier because we were tired of over-the-seat soft panniers that flop around in rough terrain, have no external pockets or stash spots, disintegrate after a couple crashes, and are a total pain in the ass to get on and off the bike. We wanted something like a backpacking frame pack, but that mounts on your bike, and that stays connected to the bike and stays waterproof no matter how many times you lay the bike down.

The Backcountry's are super easy to click on and off the bike, and because the waterproofing is accomplished inside the bag (thanks to the two-bag system), minor external crashes and scuffs won’t faze your panniers at all. Thanks to the thick, welded seam internal liner, you’re also protected from internal abrasion: for example tools, or a camp stove, or some other hard piece of gear vibrating and rubbing against the inner surface over a long period of time.

Backcountry panniers will mount seamlessly on most OEM and aftermarket pannier rack systems. If you don't already have racks, we recommend Outback Motortek Standard Frame pannier racks, available in the Racks & Adapters section of our website.
Rolling Updates to Version 2.1:

  • We introduced the Speed-Pin latch system, replacing the rotary draw latch we used before, for an ‘always-on’ attachment to the bike.
  • We upgraded the interior liner material from welded PVC to welded PU with a lighter cyan interior color to make things easier to find. The new PU is more environmentally friendly, more malleable
  • We reintroduced the 25L size, and also the option of an offset kit for bikes with asymmetrical pannier racks to accommodate exhaust.
  • We added an aluminum locking bar at the top of the bag, to accommodate our Compact or Heavy Duty ADV Locks, and a stash pocket inside the beavertail for lock storage.
  • We replaced the sewn-on rear pocket in the prior version with the new Dry Pocket system – a harness and drybag - which can be bolted to the front or rear of the pannier (or both), or removed entirely.
  • We molded a new custom removable aluminum ladderlock buckle for the front beavertail, replacing the old stamped aluminum ones. The new buckle is as tough as the old one, but easier to adjust.
  • We added MOLLE webbing behind the beavertail, and also a handy tool holder for larger items like a hatchet, knife, or saw.
  • We added an extra layer of Hypalon armor on the outside of the beavertail and reflective panels on the sides.

Want to protect your panniers and gear from thieves? Add our Compact or Heavy Duty ADV Locks, which store conveniently in the pouch on the back of the beavertail, and integrate with the aluminum Locking Bar on top of the pannier to both a) lock the bag to the bike and b) lock the bag closed.

Backcountry Weight Note: The Backcountry is heavier than the Scouts, and it’s also heavier than a traditional over-the-seat saddlebag. What you get for that weight is bomb-proof construction and materials, a completely stable mounting system (no flopping), and lots of stash spots. Lighter is not always better if it comes at the price of functionality or durability. If weight is your primary concern but you want to stick with a rack system, check out the Scout 25 panniers. If you’re really serious about weight, take off your racks (shaving 8-10 pounds off the bike) and get a Reckless 80 instead.

Wedge-Mount Compatibility Note: In July 2016, we switched the backcountry pannier wedge and frame from machined HDPE to molded glass-filled nylon. The new wedge/frame are not compatible with the old version. To determine which wedge/frame you have, check on the back of the wedge. If it is flat & smooth, that's HDPE. If it has an inset honeycomb pattern, that's molded nylon. We have extra wedges and frames of both materials in stock available for order by special request.

Cutout Pannier Rack Note: Bikes with stock racks and a pannier exhaust cutout (like the R1250GSA, R1200GSA, 850GSA, or F800GSA for example) require an additional adapter. Check the 'Hardware & Parts' section of our site, or email us with questions.
