Better than my prior heated jacket

I just received my Ectotherm Insulated 12v Heated Jacket and gave it a test run, temps here in the Northeast are below 30 degrees. I typically wear a size small in most my gear (i.e. Klim), but sized up to a medium and fit was perfect. A small surely would have too snug (5'7" & 140 lbs). The heating is on par with my prior Gerbing heated jacket liner. Where the Ectotherm wins is in the fashionable category. This is light. comfy and can be worn as a standalone jacket.

Ectotherm Insulated 12V Jacket

I read about this jacket on ADV Rider and ordered one. I found the sizing to be accurate if just a tad on the smallish side of the scale. It fit tightly but went on under my regular riding jacket. The tightness of the fit made it somewhat difficult to put on but fit was good after that. The quality is top notch; seams are beautiful, zips work like they should (and have zipper garages), the comfort was amazing and it was warm from the get go. I connected the heating element to my battery and am happy to report that the on off switch is easy to use with three settings and it warmed up quite comfortably. Definitely recommend as a jacket liner, first class kit!
In the end I didn’t keep it since there are no built-in connectors for pants or gloves. It is an undergarment as there is no armor, but other than that I recommend a trial if one is interested. A well made garment!!

Not disappointed

Call me cynical but I am used to products failing in some way to meet expectations created by marketing and others’s reviews.

I bought, or rather ordered, the jacket at the Motorcycle Live show in Birmingham. The very nice chap on the Mosko stand explained I couldn’t take it with me due to Customs control. Brexit! Let’s not go there.

Anyway the jacket arrived as promised 4 days later and has subsequently been worn every day since including a 250 mile day in freezing fog.

Lo and behold, it performs exactly as advertised. It heats up quickly. Fits snugly. Looks quite smart - this according to the missus to whom I couldn’t quite bring myself to share the price.

Yes, it is a tight fit. But they explain that so don’t be surprised. If you are a bit chubby this jacket won’t work for you. I have been very ill recently and shed around 40 pounds. That is the only reason I could get into this. As it is my typical British pear shape leaves it feeling very tight around the hips while being comfortable around the chest.

The heat controller is very neatly folded into its little pocket so as not to interfere with the look when worn off the bike but it does mean that when wearing robust overlapping motorcycle Jacket and trousers it is a right fiddle to switch it on. Adjusting on the move is impossible because you cannot get at the push button.

That however is a minor inconvenience in practice because it performs the primary function perfectly.

Happy with my choice, or rather, not disappointed.

Ecto large & XL

The wife and I bought the Ecto Large for her and XL for me.
Very well made jackets.
But the sizing is smaller than I thought it would be for both of us.
For me, the arms were a tad short and the shoulders just a hair too tight.
And that was with no armour underneath.
For the wife, the bottom of the jacket was just too tight for her to do up with girly hips.
She had no hope to get into the Large that I bought her…..what was i thinking…….and my XL fit her upper body well, just not the bottom for the hips.
MoskoMoto was amazing at returning them and we are just waiting for the XXL to come back in stock.
The sizing is definitely smaller than any other mx gear that I wear, which is all Large for compression tops and XL for jackets and jerseys.

Ectotherm Insulated 12v Heated Jacket

Size Guide >

We added carbon fiber heating elements to a kick-ass technical puffy, and the ‘Ectotherm’ was born. When you’re sitting around the campfire or lounging in your tent, it’s a super warm insulator with 100g body-mapped synthetic PrimaLoft Gold insulation with Cross Core Technology.

Connected to the bike, it adds a 6-panel carbon-fiber 3.5Amps/42w heating system powered by the bike. That extra warmth takes the edge off long, cold, wet, pavement stretches; keeps you warm on high alpine passes; adds new enjoyment to early spring and late fall trips, and ensures you’re ready for anything a multi-year/multi-season RTW journey can dish out.

The Ectotherm is your ‘ace in the hole’ for staying sane and happy when the weather turns brutal. The name comes from Ectothermic, a scientific term for animals that exchange body heat with external sources. Like a lizard basking on a hot rock.

*Ectotherm sizing runs small. We recommend one size up from your usual preferred size.

Unlike conventional heated liners the Ectotherm is a fully functional stand-alone synthetic insulation layer. By combining the functionality of a technical puffy and a heated liner we’ve added even more performance and versatility to a layer that we rarely leave home without. Now you can enjoy the comfort of onboard 12V heat without over burdening your pack space. Pair it with heated grips and hand-shields to create the ultimate minimalist heat system for backcountry and RTW travel.

Built with 100g of PrimaLoft Gold Insulation with Cross Core Technology at the core and 60g in the underarms to reduce bulk under armor, the Ectotherm is well equipped for any cold weather trip. This high-tech insulation combines PrimaLoft Gold, with aerogel technology, to provide up to 52% more warmth than the same weight of PrimaLoft Gold Insulation alone. This enables us to achieve both enhanced warmth and decreased weight. Integrated directly into the fibers, aerogel further enhances the performance of synthetic insulation. Now not only will it perform better than down when wet, it will also perform better when compressed under armor.

To further battle the chill of riding in the cold, we added 6 thin, flexible carbon fiber heat panels in the collar, arms, left and right chest and back. Activate the heat with a hem mounted controller to toggle through 3 levels of 3.5amp/42w heat to maximize comfort. The system is powered by your bike’s 12V battery (wiring harness included) for heat that lasts as long as the ride. When it comes to cold weather riding the Ectotherm Insulated 12v Heated Jacket is a powerhouse of comfort when pushing the boundaries of riding season.

*Ectotherm sizing runs small. We recommend one size up from your usual preferred size.
